This is anti-theft magnetic button, inside of it are self-locking device and induction coil. It mainly is composed of spring, iron ring, steel ball and steel needle (of different length). |

How an anti-theft button works:

When needle goes into the button, the iron ring and steel ball inside the magnetic button are pressed down on the steel needle under the action of spring force. The steel needle has a series of circular grooves, and the surface of the ball fits exactly into the grooves of the steel needle. This is why it becomes tighter when we try to pull off the anti-theft magnetic button by hand. |
So you may understand now why the cashier could get the needle removed by a magnetic detacher. When they're subjected to the magnetic attraction from the strong magnet, the steel balls and iron ring inside the button move upwards and compress the spring, at this time, the steel balls move out of the groove of the needle, in turn, making it easy to remove the needle.
There comes another question, how the magnetic button worked as anti-theft button? Actually inside of it there is an induction coil, while you know every supermarket has an anti-theft induction door, which could radiate and receive electric-magnetic wave of certain frequency (usually 8mhz).
The following picture shows a code bar named soft tag, in contrast to soft tag it is hard tag as we talked above. On the top of a soft tag it is a code bar, and in opposite side there is a mini coil inside the pressure-sensitive coil which is integrated into one piece with the top side code bar.
The cashier uses scanner to demagnetize the soft tag on the commodity that has already been paid, which makes the soft tag invalidated. So the soft tag is disposable, and non recyclable, which usually used on some expensive commodities.
